Make your own rub-ons

This technique was posted on the cricut message board. I can't find the orignal post but when I do, I'll give credit to the poster.

To create your own rub-ons you will need:

Note: This is done using an inkjet printer.
  • 1 LAZER JET transparency sheet. These can be purchased at most office supply stores. I got mine for 65 cents at OfficeMax.
  • Using your word processing software (I use Microsoft Word) type in the text, or picture, you want to use. You can use any font available on your computer.
  • Print your document - but with a twist....click on the print button just like you would normally but before you hit OK go to PRINTER PROPERTIES. Change the paper type to Transparency. Then go to FEATURES and turn on MIRROR IMAGE. Now click OK and start the print.
  • After the transparency has been printed set it aside. DO NOT immediately try to transfer it to your project. Wait for a minimum of 2 minutes. You might need to wait 5 or 6 minutes. The wait time will depend on your individual printer and how much ink it places on the transparency. If you do not allow this wait time the ink will smear between the letters.
  • Apply the rub-on like you normally would. (I use a popsicle stick)
  • When you are done, wipe off the transparency with a baby wipe or wet paper towel. The transparency can be used over and over!

This is a terrific technique and is a very thrifty way to save money on stamps. Now you can create your own sentiments for every occasion!

Another Mother's Day Card

This one is for my Daughter-in-law.

This is a gate fold card. The bird is a stamp that was colored in using colored pencils. I then rubbed the pencil with orderless mineral spirits to blend the colors. The flower center is a "skittle" as the members of the cricut message board like to call them. They are actually a small acrylic bead that is flat on the back. Mostly they are used in jars for floral arrangements or around candles. I took the skittle and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder. (I learned this technique on The Pink Scrapper Blog) It created an interesting texture.

Birthday Card

Here is a birthday card for one of the Cricut Message board member's daughter.
Minnie was done using the Mickey & Friends Cartridge, the pink background was embossed using a cuddlebug embossing folder. Minnie's dress and bow were glittered by running the pieces through my Xyron machine upside down, then glitter sprinkled on the adhesive. The inside was done by making my own rub-on.

Card for a friend

Here is a card I made to cheer up a friend. I used pluto from the Mickey & Friends cartridge. I also made my own rub-on for the inside greeting.

National Scrapbook Day!

Today is National Scrapbook Day! I've managed to stay away from the stores and have spent the entire day scraping.

Here is a layout I created for the National Scrapbook Day Challenge on the Cricut MB.

I also created my own background paper for a challenge at The Pink Stamper. This was done using a piece of blue 12 x 12 cardstock.

I stamped the cardstock with a flower stamp dipped in deluted bleach. When that was dry, I used the same stamp inked with silver pigment ink and stamped over the bleached images.

And finally, the layout using the paper.
